CGC Vacation Camp 2008

This Vacation Camp, I was the quartermisteress. I was supposed to give marks to each of the group when they were doing their duty. Each group had breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and supper duty. Wow, that's a lot of meals in a day. The children are really well fed. In order to be able to give them marks, I had to be a little early to make sure they set up the tables for each meals. Especially breakfast, I had to wake up earlier. Well, it was good training for me.

I actually had fun giving marks. As I was giving marks, I remembered the time I was a camper, I always wished that I was the one who will be giving the marks. Ha ha...and this year I gave the marks. Wow... It's really not easy. The worst part is I got sick during the camp. I had a tummy ache from the third day onwards. Lol... thank God I had the strength to sustain throughout the whole camp. After the camp, on Sunday, I was like totally flat.

During the camp, I joined Marie che-che's class. I missed the first day. *sob* *sob* Anyway, I'm glad that I joined from the second day onwards. The lessons were great. God struck me with different thoughts each day. On the day she asked us to reflect how God's delays may not be denial, how true this statement is. When I reflected on my pass experience of God's delay, I realise that sometimes prayers are answered and things happen when you least expect it. The delay in revealing His reason and will for something that happened or someone I come in contact with made me trust Him more. It is like, when I'm already so "tired" or confused He will then reveal the reason to me, how amazing that is. It's like a Father comforting her daughter when when is down and lost. The feeling is great. So comforting and so assuring.

On the last day of Vacation Camp, Marie che-che taught about obedience. The video clip was so scary. When I saw the part where the nails were nailed on to Jesus' hands, I could feel the pain in my heart. But, I know I can never ever comprehend the pain that Jesus' went through. The video clip was like a wake up call, I could heard a voice saying, 'hey, Jesus' went through all that for you, so deep is His love for you, are you taking this too lightly sometimes?' The video clip was like a knife stabbing through my heart. I just can't explained how I felt when I watched that clip, I felt I mixed of emotions. Anyway, I'm glad that I joined the class. I learnt so much.
THANK YOU MARIE CHE-CHE

God's Word is so amazing. I joined the workshop by auntie Mabel for the Std 1 to Std 4 kids. The kids learnt about the bible stories in both the old and new testament. Although I may have heard the bible stories again and again, but each time I hear it, I realise something new, something I didn't see the last time I heard it. We also played a game, we were supposed to write 2 good works that we did throughout our life, then fold it into an aeroplane. Then, we were supposed to aim at the center of the dart board which represent God. The distant between the dart board and where the children stand was quite a distant. Surely, no one was able to hit the center of the board. This was a simple game, but the message behind the game was so deep. If it was not for Jesus who died on the cross and rose again, we will be like the aeroplane, doing good works and keep on trying but we will never be good enough to reach God. This is not something that I just learnt, but each time I'm reminded of it, it makes me cherish this relationship more.
THANKS AUNTY MABEL

Besides that, during the hobbies, it was really God's guidance. The first day of hobbies, we(me and Esther Liew) did macaroni salad. The children were only Std 1 to Std 4, I was so afraid that they will cut themselves. I was afraid that the wouldn't know how to use the peeler, but to my surprise they were able to do it. They were able to peel the apples and the cucumber, remove the seeds, and even cut them into cubes, After everything was done, I was like, "Thank God everything went on smoothly, the children enjoyed themselves and the most important is that they did not hurt themselves". That was the first day.

On the second day, it was art and craft. I took the 10 years old. There was 6 of them. I taught them the three tier pop-up card. I was so afraid that they couldn't do it. It's not that I don't trust that they can, be somehow there was this fear in me. But, they children were amazing. They were able to do it and they were so creative. The children were so happy when the card was done, they were so proud of their art work. I was so happy to see the joy in their faces, it was lovely. They managed to finish the craft within the time allocated.

I really learnt a lot through this Vacation Camp, even more than what I learnt when I was a camper. I learnt to trust God, and everything will go on fine if you turn to Him in prayer that He answers prayers. I'm glad that I went to help at Vacation Camp.

As I walk through life's journey, learning differeft things at each pit stop, going through different life experience, it is truly a comfort to know that God is in control of everything. There may always be ups and downs in life, but being able to cast all my cares to Gos is a real blessing.

Ho ho ho... Merry Christmas

Merry CHRISTmas

Why is the word CHRIST so important during CHRISTmas???

Matthew 1:18-25 (New International Version)
The Birth of Jesus Christ

18This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, "Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus,[
a] because he will save his people from their sins."
22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel"[
b]—which means, "God with us."
24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

During an all-night festival in Paris, five young people, apparently drunk, broke into the Orsay Museum and left a 4-inch gash in a priceless painting by Claude Monet. Culture Minister Christine Albanel said the painting could be restored, but she was deeply disturbed at the damage done by “a purely criminal act.”

One news headline read: “Monet Masterpiece Marred.” To mar is to injure or damage; to spoil, disfigure, or impair. It’s an apt description of sin’s effect on us. We know well the results of our own choices made in ignorance or defiance of God.

As we approach Christmas, it’s good to remember why Jesus was born. The Son of God did not come to establish a nostalgic, family-oriented, commercially successful holiday. The angel told Joseph: “[Mary] will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins” (Matt. 1:21).

Christmas began with a present from God to His sin-damaged world: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).

The masterpiece of God’s human creation, marred by turning away from Him, can be restored when we give our hearts to Christ. —
David C. McCasland

He came into this world a babe,
This world that He Himself had made;
He came to do the Father’s will,
That ended on dark Calvary’s hill. —Newstrom

Jesus came to earth to repair our sin-damaged lives.
